Athletes’ Village, Stratford, London

John Sisk & Son was appointed as Principal Contractor for the development of Plots N09 and N10 of the Athletes’ Village Project in Stratford.

Plots N09 and N10 are 12 and 10 storeys in height respectively, with both buildings combined providing 401 apartments and 2,290 beds which will be completed in Phase 1 to provide Athlete accommodation during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Phase 2 will commence in November 2012 and will include kitchen retro-fit works in preparation for handover and sale/lease of the apartments as part of the social and economic legacy from the games.

The main structures of both buildings have adopted innovative engineering techniques and off-site manufacture to maximise on-site productivity and to enhance both cost efficiency and the quality of life for residents.

Creative build solutions used include a structure incorporating seven concrete cores constructed using slipform construction integrated with precast concrete columns and pre-cast shear walls.

Internally, the quality modern apartments include prefabricated bathroom pods, pre-fabricated thermal interface/utility cupboards, underfloor heating and acoustic flooring.

Both buildings contain green roofs and have pre-fabricated fully drained balconies.
