Limerick Tunnel opens ahead of schedule

Limerick Tunnel handed over ahead of schedule. DirectRoute, the PPP company which today took over the tunnel road, comprises John Sisk & Son (Holdings), Roadbridge, Lagan Construction and Strabag, together with Meridiam Infrastructure and Allied Irish Banks plc.
DirectRoute will employ around 100 to operate and maintain the tunnel roadway and Lagan Projects will be responsible for the day-to-day operating and maintenance of the roads and tunnel. The Limerick tunnel connects the M7 Dublin to Limerick route with the N18/M18 Galway to Limerick road and completes the souther bypass of Limerick.
Gerry Cawley, chairman of DirectRoute said the tunnel represents a major milestone of the development of the Atlantic Corridor and will deliver major economic, environmental and commercial benefits to the local community.
The tunnel was opened by an Taoiseach, Brian Cowen.
