Pembroke CCGT
Client: Alstom
Project: Pembroke Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant (CCGT). Construction and installation of the largest and most energy efficient CCGT plant in the UK, supplying up to 3 million homes.
Handover Date: January 2011
Materials management - Many of the reinforced concrete elements required were identical, so the site team designated an area within the site and set up a production line (similar to that used in manufacturing industry). A precast yard and batching plant were set up on site and used to successfully manufacture many construction elements including 895 drawpits/manholes, 2200 precast sleepers, 2900 precast fingered lids. This effected waste, resource efficiency, quality, and time improvements. Local communities and roads were relieved of heavy traffic as a result.
Wastewater management - The close proximity of Pembroke Bay rendered wastewater a significant potential environmental aspect. Project wastewater was directed through oily water separators, bypass seperators, and/or foul treatment units. All wastewater treatment units were manufactured on site.
